気がついたらどっぷりはまっている。
移動中にだけやるつもりだったのだが、家でもそうとう遊んでいる。

最近は任天堂もネットを使ったプロモーションが上手く、開発者インタビュー記事を積極的に掲載している。
読むだけでも面白いインタビューでわかることのひとつが、開発担当。なんと有限会社スタジオ最前線である。
初代および、PS版の「海腹川背」を作った近藤氏が社長の会社で、カードゲームを作ったりもしていたらしい。

そんなわけで、カードゲームっぽいバトルも納得がいく。
バトルのテンポはかなり遅いが、カードゲームのように行動ひとつで戦況がガラリと変わるため、ひとつひとつの行動をきっちり追っていかないと、あっさり全滅の憂き目にあったり。
やっているうちにそこが良くなってきて、テンポの遅さは全く気にならなくなった。
この一線を乗り越えられるかどうかで、評価は大きく割れているようだ。

最近はDSでも「世界樹の迷宮II」や「ドラゴンクエストIV」など、バトルのテンポが異常に速い作品を多くプレイしているせいもあってか、極端に遅いテンポのこのゲームに違和感を覚えるのは当然とも言える。しかし、カードゲームのようにしっかり考えて戦う重要さを、上記2作品と違う意味でビデオゲームに取り入れていることは評価したい。

が、普通に2時間くらいセーブできない状況になったりするのは、勘弁して欲しい。中断もないので、携帯機にとっては少々条件が厳しいか。

上記インタビューを見ると、隠しや2周目等も用意されているらしく、全然終わる気配なし。
すでに30時間近くプレイしてきて、ストーリーもいよいよ佳境であるが、とても楽しい時間が過ごせている。

セリフがいちいち酷かったり、キャラクターの動作も細かいところまで気が配ってあって、かなり楽しい。
また音楽も良い。戦闘の曲はずっと聞いていても飽きないし、気がついたら頭の中を回っている感じ。
過去作品の曲のアレンジであったり、フレーズ引用もある。IIIの直後に遊んだので、フィールドの曲も好アレンジ。

レベル上げのためのバトルはほぼ不要。
むしろカードゲームのように各キャラに装備を割り当て、それについている魔法やスキル、アビリティをうまく使うことでレベルの差はかなり埋まる。
カードゲームでいうと、手持ちの装備とキャラ、魔法を組み合わせてデッキを組む感覚。
逆にレベルを上げたところで、それが出来ないとランダムで出る「強敵」やボスには勝ちにくい仕組みになっている。
またレベルアップに必要な経験値は加速度的に増えていくので、適正レベルに足りなくても数回バトルをすれば追いついてしまう。

実に絶妙にして面白い、そんなバランスを持っているゲームといえるのではないだろうか。
ガッツリRPGやりたい人に、かなりお勧め。
